I’d like to take a moment to reflect on the wedding that helped us win the award, and what went right about it.
* I didn’t get a chance to meet Cherie and Mischa in person until their wedding day! Cherie and I had a couple of phone dates prior to booking though and we also got to know each other via the powers of facebook, so I did feel fairly comfortable stepping into the wedding day and didn’t have that stressed out feeling on the drive there. My point: getting to know each other in a casual way before the big day helped keep our minds clear and creative, without worrying about what their personalities will be like. I feel they completely trusted me on their wedding day. As did their wedding party.
* We briefly discussed what to do during the creatives session- that is, the time where I am directing the bride and groom for their portrait session. Though we did take photos with the wedding party for the first portion of the creatives, we ditched the lovely wedding party part way through to get more calm, comfortable, and creative with Cherie and Mischa. The wedding party met up with us later, on time for the ceremony.
* And the last important thing to us is that Cherie and Mischa really just went with it on their wedding day. And that helps make photos look rad. Had they been too busy thinking about the small stuff and overthinking things that day, questioning my direction, etc, they never would have choked up during the ceremony and they never would have carried on with such natural expressions of happiness throughout the day.
Thank you Cherie and Mischa for just going with it on your wedding day. And thank you to the BC Wedding Awards organizers Justin Eckersall and Tracy Volb, and everyone else involved in the evening!
These are the photos that were submitted for their wedding:
