Jess and Cam’s super fun e-session

June 18th, 2008

We had so much fun at this engagement session (another shoot at my fav spot: UBC as well as the Spanish Banks). Jess and Cam have the best sense of humor, I think I laughed out loud at a couple of these photos as I worked on them. Enjoy!

Cecil Green Park Wedding: Miki and Eiji

June 17th, 2008

Whew… It was a close one for Miki and Eiji’s wedding- all signs indicated that it was going to be very rainy day, and we had no hopes for weather that would allow us to enjoy the grounds at Cecil Green Park. I could not believe it when we looked outside mid-afternoon and saw the sun! The day before the wedding, the staff at Cecil Green said that even if it wasn’t raining (which we all assumed it would), there would be no way the grounds would be dry enough to allow for a wedding ceremony out on the beautiful green grass. But it ended up being much nicer than anyone expected, and at the last minute the chairs were all moved down onto the grounds for the ceremony!

Everything was going perfectly, and got even better when Miki found out the good news. Winnie (also starring in Laura and Kevin’s wedding) was an awesome bridesmaid during prep, getting Miki hyped up and excited.bridal getting ready

Sarah and Jon, two of a kind

June 8th, 2008

Mark was out of town when I got the call from Jon about a month ago announcing his engagement to Sarah. I was so excited for them!!! They are dear friends of ours- Mark and Jon grew up together, and I first met Jon in high school. Jon and Sarah’s first date was actually at our place one night. But when I found out they are getting married this summer, my heart sank because I assumed we wouldn’t be able to attend their wedding. I held my breath on the phone and let Jon talk about the plans, and by some miracle, they chose to have their wedding on the last summer weekend we had open, and, they want us to be their wedding photographers! Yessss! We are so happy that we are going to be there for their wedding day.

Jon and Sarah’s engagement session brings us to Granville Island, on a typical rainy Vancouver evening. You can see progress in hair curliness as the night goes on : )

In the middle of the shoot, I could tell that Jon was feeling quite goofy- though most of us know that’s pretty normal for Jon. So I asked him to let out all the goof he had bottled up for the last half hour. It took about three seconds before he accidentally hit his head, which I think ended up having a calming effect on him for the rest of the evening : )

Yay!!! Sarah and Jon are getting married and we’re so excited for you! Thanks for the fun night in the rain!

World Naked Bike Ride - Vancouver 2008

June 7th, 2008

We were downtown today as the World Naked Bike Ride was taking place (well, we didn’t just happen to be there, we did purposefully go check it out…) I enjoyed making a collection of back photos, since they were more appropriate to photograph, and they had fun and sometimes meaningful messages on them. : ) I think the messages are starting to hit home for many of us with the gas prices being the way they are these days.

Lisa and Lee, in love

May 27th, 2008

Allow me to introduce Lisa and Lee, two very fun-to-photograph people!

urban photography

Saturday’s engagement session brought us to downtown Vancouver. The streets were happenin’, with so many tourists as summer approaches, as well as all the Vancouverites out to enjoy the awesome day. It truly was an enjoyable time, we are SO looking forward to the big day!

Deer Lake Park: Modest Mouse and REM

May 24th, 2008

We extinguished the last of our winter blues tonight thanks to another great concert at Deer Lake Park. If you’re ever pondering over whether or not to go to a concert there, just DO IT! You won’t regret it. We love Modest Mouse, and it was much better seeing them outside than it was at the PNE Forum last year (terrible acoustics!). But they were, unfortunately, just an opener for REM, so they didn’t play for very long :*( The other Mark came along too, to measure the sound as part of a work project. Odd one, he is, with that device : ) but he got to go into that sound board area during the concert, so I suppose that makes him cool!

Birthday Weekend

May 19th, 2008

I’m lucky because my birthday falls on the Victoria Day long weekend so we can go away for it! We spent the weekend on an island off Seattle with our close friends Keri and Tai, and their son Tenzin. On Friday we relaxed on the beach all day- it was so comfortable, not too hot, not too cold. I ended up getting a burn, but not too bad of a burn considering how long we were there. We had a perfect birthday dinner (my fav: burritos) and an AWESOME extreme ice cream cake that Keri made.

Keri is only 6 months pregnant, but when I saw her, it knew ‘it’s time‘. Time for her maternity photo shoot! She lives on a picture perfect acreage, so we walked around a bit for photo time.

For the record, the beat up old Ford truck is not theirs, but it did make for an interesting trashy scene : )

And I’m hoping that these last two images will be the epitome of what our summer has in store for all of us- nothing but good times!

Swan-e-set Wedding: Jen and Rod

May 14th, 2008

What a dynamic day for Jen and Rod’s wedding. It started off with threatening clouds and a traffic jam on the bridge (as well as Mark and I witnessing a car flip over off the road, me calling 911, and Mark and another passerby pulling two people out of an overturned van), but none of that mattered because it was as though someone flicked a switch when it came time for the wedding, and the blue skies came out and the roads cleared! Jen and Rod’s ceremony was held at Trinity United Church in Port Coquitlam and their reception was held at the elegant Swan-e-set bay resort.

Preps were fun and calm at both locations. I love the atmosphere before a wedding, and this was no exception.

One of my favorite things about photo editing after a wedding is that I get to see what was happening at both locations in the proper time sequence. The next two photos- the girls popping champagne in Pitt Meadows and the guys cheers-ing their beers in Coquitlam were both taken within a few minutes of each other. Cheers time!

Now Open for 2009

May 14th, 2008

It took us a while longer to open our schedule because we want to do a little traveling next year, but we are now booking weddings for 2009. I admire all the organized and efficient couples out there already getting their plans well underway for next year. You rock! Happy planning to all!
